"Dem Geechie gals 5..."

Gullah-N-Geechie Mahn Tours was started in May 1992, by Kitty K. Green after she and her husband, Clarence sponsored their daughter, Sherri in a restaurant named "The Gullah House," that specialized in Gullah style cooking.  Kitty found herself shuttling folks from all over the country, to/from airports, train stations, and bus stations, all because they were interested in knowing more about Gullah.  This led to Kitty's research into Gullah.  In her research, she found herself traveling to various parts of the diaspora, that included Senegal and Ghana, West Africa; South America, and the Sea Islands of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. She was also able to collect oral research with many of the elders on St. Helena Island (one of the larger Sea Islands where isolation took place for a much longer period), and other Sea Islands.

Kitty is Owner/Director of Operations of Gullah-N-Geechie Mahn Tours, which is SC's premiere and oldest Gullah touring company.  Having over 26 years of business experience in the Beaufort County area, Kitty is dedicated to the preservation of the Sea Island Gullah culture by sharing pieces of the African American experience and showing the connection to Gullah life on St. Helena Island, SC.  She is an Educational Consultant and has served on many boards in the Beaufort County Government to include, Beaufort County Economic Development Board, Penn Center Preservation School, and the Greater Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce.

"The Boss Lady," in which she is referred to by her awesome "Geechie 5 Team" (daughters/grand daughters--Seretha, Sherri, Tara, and Dominique), is a Community Leader, Instructor, and Co-Author of "Lessons Learned from the Gullah Experience."  

When Kitty is not compiling on-going research for her tours, she enjoys traveling with her husband, Clarence of 55 years and spending time with her great grandchildren.
